The Amertec Building

The Amertec Building in Hialeah, Florida, was designed by OU alumnus Chayo Frank in 1967. The Amertec Company produced store fixtures and was owned by Chayo’s father. The building is comprised of playful, curving and lively sculptural volumes, which were originally painted different colors using metallic paint. The sculpted exterior forms and dramatic cavernous interiors were created using spray on concrete. Frank was inspired by tropical plants and landscapes. The Amertec building’s composition of organic volumes anticipates the work of Frank Gehry who would later design projects with similarly exuberant sculpted volumes. The Amertec Building was demolished in 2017.
