Kathleen A. Kelly is an independent editor and research development consultant at Gray Bevins Editorial, an academic editing firm that she founded in 2019. At Gibbs, she collaborates with faculty on research and creative projects, mentors them on awards and grants strategy, and helps to conceptualize and shape research funding proposals.

Prior to founding Gray Bevins, she worked for over two decades in academic publishing in California and Oklahoma. She held various positions with Oxford University Press and was an award-winning acquisitions editor at the University of Oklahoma Press (2011-2019). She specializes in anthropology, architecture and design, art history and visual arts, Black studies, film studies, gender and sexuality studies, Latin American studies (with a focus on Argentina and Brazil), literature (poetry and creative non-fiction), modernist studies, Middle East studies, and sociology. Her clients include university departments and academic authors of creative and scholarly non-fiction.

A poet, she held writer’s residencies at The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico (Taos) and at the Vermont Studio Center. Her work has been published in CALYX, North American Review, Nelle, PMS PoemMemoirStory, Nimrod International Journal, This Land, among others. Her poems have also appeared in the edited collection, Casita Poems: An Anthology (Jambu Press, 2019).

She has also served as an external juror for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Public Scholars Program in History and as a judge for Oklahoma Book Award in Poetry.
