Afsana Sharmin joined the Division of Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Design (PLAD) at the Gibbs College of Architecture in Spring 2024 as a Lecturer. She attended Texas Tech University for her Master of Landscape Architecture (Professional) degree and PhD in Land Use Planning, Management, and Design. Afsana’s research focuses on human-nature interaction and the impacts of anthropogenic activities on natural systems. Her PhD research investigates the urban morphological transformation in relation to oil and gas extraction in the Greater Midland-Odessa Region in Texas. As an educator, she advocates for implementing urban and landscape ecology principles in landscape design and planning. Before joining OU, Afsana taught undergraduate architecture studios at Texas Tech University. Afsana also has a Bachelor’s in Architecture (B.Arch) and has worked as a professional architect
